The genius behind the founding of Cadillac was entrepreneur and engineer Harry Leland. Known as Cadillac Automobile Company at the time, the classic American automaker received its name from the French Explorer Antoine Laumet de la Mothe Cadillac, who founded the city of Detroit back in 1701 alongside hundreds of Frenchmen and Algonquin Natives.

The emblem blossomed into existence around the same time as the founding of Cadillac in 1902 and has undergone several redesigns since.
